This event is free and open to the public.
Poet Sarah Vap will be in residence with 5th grade students at Hood Canal School prior to the event, working with Bierds’ poems to create writing pieces. Students will begin the evening by reading from their work.
Linda Bierds has been the recipient of a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship,
grants from the National Endowment of the Arts and a John Simon Guggenheim fellowship.
Her work has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Poetry
and numerous other publications. She is the author of seven previous collections of poems.

Sarah Vap is the author of two collections of poetry, American Spikenard, which won the 2006 Iowa Poetry Prize, and
Dummy Fire, which won the 2006 Saturnalia Poetry Prize. Her third collection, Faulkner’s Rosary, is scheduled for
publication in 2010 with Saturnalia Press. Her poems can be found in American Poetry Review, Field, Colorado Review, and other journals.

Both poets will be available to sign books following the reading. Their books are available at Sage Bookstore in Shelton.
(Hood Canal School is located on HWY 106, just off of HWY 101, 15 minutes north of Shelton.)
